FIRE TRAGEDY
MAN BURNED TO DEATH. ONLY PERSON IN HOUSE. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 1. A man believed to be Augustus Trevitt Hamilton, married, aged about 50. was burned to death in a house in Springston South tonight. The house, a wooden one, containing six rooms, and situated about half a mile from Dacre’s Store, Springston South, was occupied by Mr. Hamilton, his wife and boy aged four. It was seen to be on fire at six o’clock tonight. Constable Fallon, who is stationed in the district, was informed, and immediately went to the scene. He saw the charred body of a man in the blazing building, but because of the intense heat, and also lack of water, he was unable to recover the body from the flames. Mr. Hamilton was the only one in the house during the day, his wife and ehildr having gone out in the morning.
There are two other members of the family, a girl aged 17, and a boy aged 15, but they did not reside at the house, as they are working away from home.
