SOLWAY RAINFALL. FIGURES FOR MAY. Mr. I-I. M. Boddington reports that rain was measured at Solway on 15 days in May. The maximum fall was 34 points, on the 26th, and the minimum 1 point on the 14th. The total for the month was 1.66 inches as against 1.22 in (1938), 3.61 (1937), 2.64 (1936), 6.99 (1935), 4.83 (1934); average for 36 years, 4.34 inches. The total rainfall for the five months was 7.56 inches as compared with 22.31 in. (1938), 13.48 (1937), 22.29 (1936), 15.04 (1935), 16.46 (1934); average for 36 years. 15.36 inches. The five months’ rainfall for this year is the lowest recorded at Sol ■ way for .36 years, other low totals for a similar period being 8.73 (1921) and 9.92 (1919). Miss A. M. Brown reports as follows for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. today:— Barograph, 30.50. Shade temperature: Maximum 55.3, minimum 30.3, terrestrial 22.1. Sunshine, 4 hours 50 min. Rain, 1 point. Frost. 8.3 degrees. Weather forecast: Light and variable winds. Weather fine with mild day but cold night temperatures and fr<?st.
