CUB COMMISSIONER ADDRESS AT ANZAC HALL. (“Times-Age” Special.) Miss Nancy Wilson, of Bulls, Dominion Cub Commissioner was a recent visitor to Featherston. She was the guest of Mr and Mrs D. H. S. Riddiford. During her stay here she gave an address to between sixty and seventy Guides, Brownies, Scouts and Cubs at the Anzac Hall. Her talk, which was illustrated with moving pictures, dealt with a five months’ cruise with the Chief Scout and Chief Guider. Lord and Ladj' Baden-Powell. Miss Wilson’s address was followed with keen interGSt. Mrs Riddiford, Wairarapa District Commissioner of Girl Guides, thanked Miss Wilson for her interesting address.’ QUEEN CARNIVAL CONTEST WON BY MISS E. COLE. The final figures in the Queen Carnival contest were: — Miss Eileen Cole (Gold), with 28.218 votes; Miss Ngaere Tocker (Red), 24,095; Miss Anne Fellingham (Blue), 11,489; Miss Nancy Corlet (Green),. 5,416. The carnival was a brilliant success, the handsome sum of £865 7s 3d being raised. At the final night in connection with the carnival competitions were won as follow:—Watch competition, prize £5, Miss Jean Brash. Groceries, Mrs H. Tucker. Bag of sugar, Mr J. Lynsky. The figures in connection with the rainfall for May are:—Total rainfall, 2.49 inches; number of days with rain, 13; maximum fall, 1.04 inches on 25/5/39. In May, 1938, 2.29 inches of rain 'were registered, there being 13 wet days. Vital Statistics. The vital statistics for May are: — Births, 2; deaths, nil; marriages, 2. Motor Registrations. During May 436 vehicles were relicensed as against 409 in May last year. Golf Competition. On the Gum Grove links an eclectic handicap was played, with the following result: —Mrs Benton, 1; Mrs Turnbull, 2; Miss M. Bloxam, 3. Ladies’ Golf Match. At Gum Grove yesterday the Carterton ladies defeated the Featherston ladies by 7 games to 2, with three all square. Lecture Recital. 'Mr Paul Schramm, the Viennese pianiste, gave a very interesting lec-ture-recital to the pupils of the primary and secondary schools at the school yesterday. He chose for his programme Robert Schumann’s “Scenes of Childhood” and Debussy’s “Children’s Corner.” Before performing Mr Schram delighted his audience by a instructive and humourous description of the originality of the piece. < Mr Hayes thanked Mr Schramm for his recital which had been very much appreciated. Personal. Mrs N. C. C. Shopherd left today on a short visit to Auckland. Miniature Rifles Club. The following were the scores in the Featherston Miniature Rifle Club's wecklv competition:—l.
