GERMANY’S INTERVENTION IN SPAIN “VOLUNTEERS” WELCOMED HOME. EXPOSURE OF THE FALSITY OF FORMER DENIALS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 12.35 p.m.) RUGBY, May 31. According to Agency reports from Hamburg, German “volunteers” who took part in the Spanish civil war arrived back there today, and were ceremoniously welcomed by FieldMarshal Goering. The German newspapers have been carrying, accounts of Germany’s part in “securing the victory of the insurgent forces.The Berlin correspondents of British newspapers have been somewhat l bewildered' by the sudden frank disclosure in detail of German participation. I hey ask now are they to reconcile these revelations with the heated protests formerly appearing in these same German newspapers when any suggestion was made that Ger-, many was intervening in Spain—suggestions that were described as “foreign Press lies.” GOERING GIVES MEDALS. (Received This Day, 12.20 p.m.) HAMBURG, This Day. Nobody at home knew anything qbout the German Legion in Spain, declared Field-Marshal Goering, in a speech of welcome. Nobody spoke of their heroism. Today all were honouring the heroes. Marshal Goering gave medals to the legionairies.
