VIENNA BOYS’ CHOIR
DEPARTS WITHOUT PROCEEDS OF TOUR. GETTING MONEY IN THREE WEEKS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 31. Like the American singer, Richard Crooks, the Vienna Boys’ Choir left New Zealand without the proceeds of its tour in this country when the Aorangi sailed for Sydney. Mrs H. Marsh, who supervises the business arrangments of the choir, said before the vessel sailed, that they had been told they would be able to get the money in three weeks. Meanwhile, she had been given only five Australian £1 notes. The conductor of the choir, Dr Gruber, said they had known about th exchange restrictions before reaching New Zealand, and, consequently, no inconvenience was caused through not being able to take the proceeds of the tour. They had American currency, and funds were waiting in Australia. In any case, the choir did not aim at making profits. It was a cultural organisation and aimed merely at making the living and educational expenses of the boys. Consequently the proceeds of the tour were not large.
