NO BEAUTY IN HOLLYWOOD
PRODUCER STILL SEARCHING. William Anthony McGuire, one of the few producers who still make musical comedy pictures —he produced “The Great Ziegfeld,” among others —• says he hasn’t been able to find one really beautiful girl in Hollywood, and he’s been here looking fox’ one for nearly 10 years. “The girls here,” said McGuire, “seem to have lost the greatest attribute of beauty, and that is the element of dependent femininity. Not only do the women in pictures wear slacks, but they are as self-sufficient as they are self-supporting, and that’s bad —for beauty.” McGuire says that Hedy Lamarx’ looks so glamorous because she is a brunette plumped down among thousands of blondes, and now all the Hollywood girls were either taking to wearing wigs ox- dyir\g their hair black. He said if he were designing a beautiful woman from scratch he’s give hexlegs of Marlene Dietrich, the eyes of Miss Lamarr, the hair of Gladys Glad, the mouth of Marilyn Miller (famous musical comedy star), and the hands and arms of Dolores, former- Ziegfeld dancer.
