CHIN-LINE BEAUTY

BLEACHING PACKS AND MASSAGE. SOME TIMELY HINTS. Very often a woman’s age can be accurately told by the condition of the skin of her chin and neck. Often her face is unlined and beautiful, but her neck and chin, when seen in contour, have lost much of their youthful beauty. In a young girl the skin is taut and clear cut, whereas in an older woman the muscles have begun to sag, there is a fullness under the jaw-bone and a bagginess beneath the point of the chin. In too many cases care of chins and necks is neglected until signs of ageing, wrinkling, or fullness appears, and then hasty restorative treatments are resorted to. It would be far better if, whilst you were still young, you undertook to carry out simple preventive treatments. Imagine that your skin is a piece of elastic, and that at one end of the elastic is a piece of lead. If that lead is allowed to remain on the elastic for a long period the elastic will then lose all-its elasticity and will not regain its normal length, but if the weight is regularly removed the elastic will then instantly fly back to its normal position. The same applies to the muscles on each side of the face beneath the chin. These muscles receive a huge amount of work and very little rest, and consequently, unless treated, they soon show actual signs of . drooping. If, however, when you are in your middle twenties, you procure a chin-strap, and slip it on at any odd minute during the day, you will then feel as much relief as you do when you rest your feet when they are tired. Be sure that you procure on? which fits you Another excellent plan is to give your chin an invigorating slapping treatment. Make yourself a pad of cottonwool and wring it out in icy cold water, then slightly dampen it with eau de Cologne and briskly pat it over your face until the skin glows. Start underneath the chin, patting across the jawbone to the ear, and then upwards towards the temple. This treatment should be carried out for five minutes each night and morning. Massage for Wrinkles. If the skin on the neck is at all wrinkled the following simple treatment will do much to remedy the condition. Place a tablesponful of lanoline in an enamelled dish and allow it to liquefy over a low gas. By heating the cream into a liquid condition if tnus becomes more easily absorbed by the skin. Care should be taken to see that the cream is not made too hot.

Spread the melted lanoline generously over the neck, throat, and shoulders and then massage by placing the hands low at the base of the throat and working upwards to the base of the chin with swift, firm movements. After this movement has been carried out for a few minutes again start a new series of movements by placing the hands together at the base of the throat and this time allow the hands to work upwards and outwards towards the ears. In this movement the hands will run along beneath the jawbone. Keep moving the starting place of the hands by a few inches until the whole of the skin area of the neck and throat has been covered with massage and cream. As the cream becomes absorbed by the skin further applications should be made.

Night Treatment. If the skin is particularly dry and lined it will require a very nourishing treatment, and this is best given in the following_manner. Procure two one-yard lengths of four-inch wide bandage gauze and soak it in the following skin food: add together one tablespoonful each of lanoline and olive oil, place together in an enamelled dish and liquefy over the gas. Mix together and then soak one of the pieces of gauze in the liquefied cream. Wrap it well around the neck and then wrap the other piece of bandage around it, and finally off to bed. This treatment will allow the skin to absorb the maximum amount of nourishment. In the morning, when the bandage is removed, wash the neck well with soap and water until all traces of the oil have been removed.

The above treatment can be carried out as fequently as desired.

For Bleaching. , The summer sun often leaves behind a dirty, muddy-looking neck which spoils one’s appearance for many future months. An excellent bleaching pack can be made by mixing together almond meal and almond oil until you have a thin paste. Place a tablespoonful of the meal in a saucer and add the oil until the paste is of the right consistency. Spread this over the neck and allow to remain on the skin for 20 minutes. Remove it from the skin with pads of cottonwool which have been soaked in warm water. Dry the neck lightly’- with a soft towel and then dab with liquid calomine and allow it to remain on all night. This calomine lotion can be used during the day as well if desired as it not only acts as a liquid powder, but also as a slight bleaching agent. If this treatment is carried out daily for a week it will be quite sufficient to restore the skin to a normal condition. Seeing that your chin-line plays such an important part in determining your beauty and your age, it is for you to see that it tells a tale that is at least flattering, even if it is nou exactly truthful.
