CZECH GOLD

TRANSFER TO GERMANY QUESTION OF LEGALITY. CROWN LAW INVESTIGATION IN BRITAIN. (Independent Cable Service.) LONDON, May 30. Crown Law officers are beginning an investigation to ascertain whether the British Government acted wrongly in refraining from interfering with the release by the Bank of International Settlements to the Reichsbank of £6,000,000 in Czech gold held in London. A Basle message states that the Bank of International Settlements has not yet officially notified that the Czech gold has left London, but it is expected, that the transfer will shortly be carried out. Legal opinion in London, is that if Britain held up the gold after an order from the Czech National Bank, which presumably was taken over by Germany, similarly to the railways, it would be like holding up a German ship on the high seas.
