GLOWING WELCOME

THEIR MAJESTIES REACH VICTORIA BONFIRES ALONG GEORGIA STRAITS. MOONLIT HARBOUR MAKES SUPERB PICTURE. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. VICTORIA (8.C.), May 30. The special correspondent of the Australian Associated Press says that their Majesties’ night arrival at Victoria, British Columbia’s beautiful island capital, created one of the most picturesque scenes of the tour. Lines of bonfires down the Georgia Straits heralded the approach of the Royal steamer, Princess Marguerite, and the escort of destroyers and other craft, while 20 miles away on the rockbound coast of Washington, at the north-west corner of the United States, glowed an American welcome. Victoria Harbour was bathed in moonlight, and, with the buildings lining the foreshores outlined with glittering lights, it made a superb picture as the ships entered to the accompaniment of bursting rockets and a chorus of whistles and syrens from every vessel in the port. Ashore 80,000 people gave their Majesties a tumultuous reception. Many are staying out of doors all night in order to watch the procession tomorrow.
