GOLDEN WEDDING
MR & MRS JOHN McHATTIE. Mr and Mrs John McHattie, of Upper Hutt, on Saturday celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage. The occasion was suitably honoured with a dinner at the Brown Owl. followed by a dance. The dinner table was artistically arrayed, and the fifty guests were kept highly interested with stories of the early 60 s and the trials and tribulations that the young couples of those days had to face. The main toast of the evening was in the hands of Mr W. Wackrow. of Rotorua, who, having been associated with the couple for half a century, was able to unearth history of a most interesting nature. Supporting the toast were Mr J. Mahar, Mr W. Cruickshank and Mr R. Pinhey. (Masterton), who in turn added much amusement with their tales of past doings. The “bridegroom” responded most suitably, and related scraps of history covering the arrival of his father and mother into the township of Waitahuna in the early 60’s..
