Thomas Edward Guerin (Eddie Guerin), aged 77, who achieved notoriety 34 years ago as the first man to escape from Devil's Island, pleaded not guilty to a charge of frequenting Epsom Downs with the intention of committing a felony. Guerin said: “I escaped from Devil’s Island but why should that follow me all' my life? I- have been straight for two years.” Guerin was remanded.
