FAMOUS TENNIS PLAYERS
MAY VISIT NEW ZEALAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 29. Prospects of a tour of Australia next season by the four professional tennis stars. Budge. Tilden, Perry and Vines, are extremely bright, according to Mr Norman Brookes, president of the Australian Tennis Association, who is a passenger by the Mariposa. Mr Brookes said his association was hopeful that the terms it had offered the players would be accepted. He thought it would be a good idea if the New Zealand association would communicate with the Australian body to see if it would be possible to arrange for the Dominion to be included in the tour.
“In reply to a letter from the players’ representative, we have offered 75 per cent of the ‘gate’ and to provide all the courts and facilities required,” said Mr Brookes. “They would pay their own living and travelling expenses. We hope soon to arrange an open championship contest in Australia in which professionals and amateurs can play.”
