YOUNG FARMERS
FEATHERSTON CLUB MONTHLY MEETING. DEBATE WITH GRE'YTOWN. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the last monthly meeting of the Featherston Young Farmers’ Club, the chairman, Mr D. McKenna, presided over an excellent «{TST|qSl\attendance, including four iW members. The new Hugh C, Pearce, was also in attendance. Applications were invited from members wishing to take part in the South Island tour. It was decided that the subscription be raised from 3s 6d to ss, the excess to be donated to the district executive. Mr McKenna then welcomed the debaters from the Greytown Club and their associates. Mr N. Skeet, Greytown, was elected chairman. Messrs Roy Donald, Featherston, and Bean, Greytown, were appointed judges, and Mr Pearce timekeeper. The teams consisted of three members, as follow:— Greytown: Messrs V. Gates, Saywell and Gordon. Featherston: Messrs W. Nix, M. Benton and R. Pillar. The subject of the debate was: “Does the young farmer of today have more opportunities than his grandfather had in his youth?” Greytown opened the debate, the leader being Mr Gates, and Mr Nix replied. The debate proved a lively encounter, the judges deciding in favour of Featherston. They admitted that they had learnt something from the Young Farmers, and advised every young farmer to join up with a club. The visitors were entertained at supper.
