METAL INDUSTRIES STRIKE IN NEW SOUTH WALES. DEMANDS BY ENGINE DRIVERS AND FIREMEN. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. SYDNEY, May 27. 'A. serious dislocation of the metal trades and engineering industries has occurred here as the result of a strike of 150 engine drivers and firemen in ..ten big engineering workshops. A mass meeting of ironworkers representing 1500 men in the shops concerned decided yesterday to strike in sympathy with the drivers and firemen. Some of the firms involved are Morts Dock, Cockatoon Dock, Clyde Engineering Company, Hadfields Limited, and Babcock W-illcox Limited. The dispute hinges on the drivers’ and firemen’s claims for better wages and conditions and the feeling that employers are obstructing the men’s objective of obtaining a new award embodying better pay.
