In the amateur golf championship quarter-finals W. Holt (United States) defeated K. Thom (England), 3/2. Thom, who is aged 18. is an inexperienced player. A. Duncan (Wales) defeated R. Chapman (United States), 5/3; A. Kyle (Scotland) defeated J. Bruen (Ireland), one up. Bruen was favourite for the title. C. Stowe (England) defeated S. Roberts (Wales), one up. In the semi-finals Duncan defeated Stowe, 3/2 and Kyle defeated Holt, 2/1.
