A clerk employed by the city council of Mildura, a large provincial centre 360 miles norlh-v.iest of Melbourne, was hold up mid robbed of a pm,-101l < f ."50(1 today. 'flic victim was Erie Allan. He was -.Jriving to th? council's power station to pay the irifii when he was hailed by .1 man known to him. asking for a ! : ft. .ef.er travelling a short distance die man struck Allan a violent blow, knockin'?; him out of the car. Allan said laler that the man made off in the- car. The robber apparently mistook the road as the car was later found bogged in a small swamp. Several boys who saw the car enter the swamp said the man jumped out carrying a heavy bag. Allan immediately telephoned the police, who an hour later arrested a man in bed in a guest house. The bag was later fo.iind in scrub, but it was empty.
