NO HOPE LEFT

FATE OF THE REMAINING SQUALUS MEN DIVER LOOKS INTO HULK. AFT TORPEDO ROOM FLOODED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 1.25 p.m.) NEW YORK. May 25. A message from Portsmouth states that a Navy diver succeeded in looking into the Squalus hulk. He reported that the aft torpedo room was flooded, apparently ending the hope that any further men are left alive. It was this room which, in the experts’ opinion, was most likely to remain dry, since it was farthest from the valve through which water enters. The Commander of the Navy Yard sent twenty-six coffins to the scene after the discovery.
