GIFTS FROM MALAY STATE . RULERS. WARMLY APPRECIATED . BY BRITAIN. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. May 24. ■ Answering a question in the House of Commons, the Colonial Secretary, Mr Malcolm MacDonald, said the High Commissioner had informed him that the rulers of the Federated Malay States, with the unanimous approval of the Federal Council, had decided to offer a gift of 4,000,000 dollars to Britain toward the cost of the general defence of the British Empire. The Sultan and Government of the State of Kelantan had decided to give 160,000 dollars for the same purpose, and the Rajah and State Council of Pariis 25,000 dollars. Mr MacDonald added that he had asked the High Commissioner to convey to the donors Britain’s warm appreciation of these generous gifts and the- signal expression of ■ their practical co-operation in consolidating the security of the Empire.
