TASMAN AIR SERVICE
START LIKELY IN OCTOBER FLYING-BOATS TO RUN TWICE A WEEK. TIME OF CROSSING ABOUT EIGHT HOURS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 10.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE. May 25. The Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr Fairbairn,, said the trans-Tasman air mail service was not likely to begin before October. It would be run twice a week and the flying-boats would take about eight hours for the crossing. FIRST FLYING-BOAT. LEAVING BRITAIN AT END OF JUNE. (Independent Cable Service.) (Received This Day. 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 25. The first flying-boat for the Tasman air mail leaves at the end of June. It will fly to Auckland, where it will be used for training. SURVEY FLIGHT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. May 25. “In all probability there will be a survey flight across the Tasman to Auckland before the trans-Tasman air service begins in September,” said the Minister of Defence, Mr Jones, today.
