VIENNESE BOYS CHOIR
CONCERT AT OPERA HOUSE TONIGHT. Tonight at 8 o’clock in the Opera House the famous Vienna Mozart Boys’ Choir will present a programme of vocal music of a kind all too rarely heard in this part of the world. Ranging from gems of the Church masters of the 16th century down to the popular waltz tunes of Johann Strauss, the repertoire of these remarkable young choristers includes something for practically every possible shade of musical taste. The novelty of the entertainment, the combination of colouring and shading, the fresh youthfulness of the lads, and the extent of their musical knowledge and interpretive powers combine to weave a spell over the most sophisticated audiences. It is significant that nowhere have the choir’s concerts been more popular than in London and New York. These boys surmount technical difficulties with astounding ease, and the perfect blending of the juvenile voices testifies to their exacting discipline and almost instinctive good taste. The special feature of tonight’s programme will be the presentation in costume of Gluck’s humorous operetta, “The Deceived Cadi.” There will also be groups of madrigals, motets and folk songs from many countries. The conductor, Dr. Georg Gruber, is an eminent Viennese musician, well-known as the principal conductor of the Wiener Saengerknaben and of the Vienna Male Voice Choir, of 500 voices. Plans and day sales are at W. G. Perry’s.
