“HOSTESS AFTERNOON”

MASTERTON' METHODIST CHURCH. LADIES’ GUILD MEETING. , A very successful “Hostess Afternoon” was held in the Methodist Hall yesterday afternoon under the auspices of the Women’s Missionary Auxiliary. The room was tastefully decorated with bowls of hydrangeas, berries and autumn leaves, while dainty china and silver and gaily painted throjvovers of the tea table completed a charming scene. The function was opened by Mrs F. Parker and a hymn was sung. A programme of musical and elocutionary items had been arranged which was enjoyed by all, encores being requested. The first item was a trio for two mandolins and Spanish guitar, “Cromatie,” played by Misses J. Tagg, E. Byford and E. Beale, who also played a march “On the Trail.” Then came a demonstration of “Mime” by Misses B. Coleman and E. Thomas who played the nursery rhyme “One, Two, Buckle My Shoe,” and “An Old Fashioned Tea Party.” Mrs Coleman played the incidental music. ». The company then partook of afternoon tea, after which Miss J. Douglas delighted her hearers with a humorous* recitation and had to respond to an encore. A vocal solo was rendered by Mrs H. Speight. The Rev F. Parker then gave a short talk, on the work in the Solomon Islands and read a letter from Mrs Dr Rutter telling of their life and experiences in the Western Solomons Group. Miss Hancox gave a humorous recital and responded to an encore. A squad of the Girls Life Brigade provided a demonstration of bandaging, and showed that they had made good progress in acquiring knowledge of first aid. . Mr Parker thanked the hostesses and performers. The hostesses were as follows:—Mesdames F. Parker, J. Handyside, C. Shoos, mith, L.' Jansen, H. Speight, J. Drew, W. Hansen, J. Andrew, A. J.
