Mr and Mrs Arthur Wilkie, Martinborough, have returned home after spending a few days in Wellington. Mrs D. Abernethy, of Wanganui, is on a holiday visit to Masterton as the guest of Mrs G. G. Hancox, College House. The engagement »s announced of Gwendoline Isabell, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs H. Wainscott, Masterton, to Oswald Prior Rene, son. of Mr W. Percy, Matahiwi. Mr and'Mrs Eric Chambers, Birkenhead, Auckland, who have been spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs Leslie Cross, Church Street, have returned home. The engagement is announced of Marjorie, second daughter of Mrs and the late Mr G. Blane, Vivian Street Masterton, to James, younger son of Mr and Mrs Duckworth, Queen Street, Masterton. Members of the Carterton Drama Club and Women’s Institute gave an afternoon to Miss Edna McLean yesterday afternoon at the residence ot Mrs F. M.vTrapp, in honour of her ap-proaching-marriage. The president of the Institute referred to the interest their guest always displayed in the affairs of both the club and the institute ’and in recognition of her services they had decided to give her an afternoon. The president, Mr H. Knutson, wished Miss McLean the best of good wishes for her future and asked her to accept a -leather suit case. Miss McLean thanked all for their very great kindness. Afternoon tea was served and enjoyed by all.
