BADMINTON CLUB. BUSINESS AT ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Featherston Badminton Club was held on Tuesday night, when there was a largo attendance of members. Miss B. Currie presided. The balance sheet showed a credit of £3 14s Bd. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Dr. G. S. Sharp; Vice-president, Mr W. H. Rowles; captain, Mr B. O’Neale; treasurer-secre-tary, Miss J. Tutbury; committee, Misses D. Benton, B. Currie, Messrs J. Thurston, D. McWilliams; hon. auditor, Mr K. Allen.
The following new members were elected:—Misses M. and N. Tocker, Till, Currie, Johns, Robertson and Mr McNamara. It was decided to adopt Tuesday as playing night. The subscriptions are to be the same as last season. It was decided to join up with .ne Wairarapa Badminton Association. Painful Accident. Mr E. Algie met with a painful accident on Tuesday. When felling a tree a fragment of a branch pierced his left hand. An operation was necessary. Bridge Afternoon. A pleasant time was spent on Tuesday afternoon when Mrs Bloxam lent her home for a bridge afternoon in aid ol the Blue Queen, Miss Anne Fellingham. Miss Eva Card won the first prize, Mrs Lawson the lucky number, and Mrs Watson the consolation. Mrs Bloxam entertained all at afternoon tea, which was much appreciated. Euchre Tourney. There was a-good attendance at the euchre tourney held by the Home and School Association in the Odd Fellows’ Hall on Tuesday night. The winners were: Mrs Lowell 1, Mrs Hoskings 2; Mrs R. Fluty 1, Mrs W. Fluty 2. Personal. Mr W Crawford has entered the Greytown Hospital for treatment. Mr Crawford has been in _ indifferent health for some time past. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the School Committee over which Mr J. W. Holland (chairman) presided a letter was received from the National Peace Council of New Zealand asking the committee to give its support to a demand for the holding of a world confence on economic and other questions affecting the peace of the world as a means to end the present tension between the nations of the world. The letter was received, the committee considering it was a matter for the Government to handle. Miss D. G. Lindsay, infant mistress, wrote resigning her position on the staff, as she had secured a position in Dunedin.
Members of the committee expressed regret at losing Miss Lindsay s services, and expressed appreciation of the way she had fulfilled her duties during her term of office. The Education Board advised that Miss N. Wharton, late infant mistress at Springlands School, had been appointed to fill the vacancy caused oy Miss Lindsay’s departure. The Education Board advised that the Committee’s application to have the fence at the High School put in order had been granted, and arrangements would be made for the carrying out of the work at an early date The chairman reported that Mr W. Deavoll, secretary of the Wellington Education Board, accompanied by Col McDonald, one of the board members for the Wairarapa, had visited Featherston, and had consulted with members of the committee as to what should be done with the present High School building when vacated after new accommodation nad been provided. The committee decided to defer consideration of the matter until the new accommodation was completed. It was decided to permit the committee to use the cookery room to provide accommodation for Standard 1, which at present is using the gymnasium, which is considered not very suitable. Mr Henderson was appointed delegate to the Wairarapa Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Club’s Association. It was decided to purchase necessary articles for the convenient making of cocoa to supply 100 children.
