COMING SESSION
PARLIAMENT TO OPEN ON JUNE 27. ANNOUNCEMENT BY PREMIER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. An announcement that Parliament would be opened by commission on Tuesday, June 27, was made yesterday by the Prime Minister, Mr Savage. This procedure is always adopted for the opening of a new Parliament. There will be a more ceremonial initiation of Parliamentary proceedings on the afternoon of June 28, when the Governor-General will address members of both Houses of the Legislature assembled in the Legislative Council Chamber. The real work of Parliament will begin on the Thursday afternoon, when the first Imprest Supply Bill of the session will be introduced and put through all stages at one sitting, thus enabling the Council to pass the measure before the end of the month. In normal circumstances the House devotes the first sitting after initial formalities to paying tributes to former legislators whose death has occurred during the recess, but on this occasion it has been decided to set Friday, June 30, apart for commemorative tributes as has been done on previous occasions when the business of the House has required it. Mr Savage said last evening that he did not expect to submit ■ a great deal of legislation for the consideration of Parliament this session. Present indications were that consolidating measures and amendments to existing Acts would constitute the bulk of the legislative programme.
