MISS E. McLEAN HONOURED. SOCIAL AT CLAREVILLE. / Last evening the Clareville Hall was crowded when a social was tendered to Miss Edna McLean in honour of her approaching marriage. The evening was taken up with dancing, games and competitions and everyone had a very enjoyable time. During the evening Mr W. Wilson, on behalf of the residents of Carrington and West Taratahi, said it was a pleasure to him to be called upon to say a few words in regard to the guest xjf the evening. Everyone present knew that Miss McLean was born in the Carrington district, had attended the school at West Taratahi and in fact had been brought up among its residents. She was always a popular younglady in the district and in view of her approaching marriage the residents of the district thought it only right to tender her a social. On behalf of those assembled he wished Miss McLean a happy wedded life, and asked her to accept the many gifts that were in front of her. This Miss McLean did amidst applause. Mr J. Todd thanked the residents of Carrington and West Taratahi for the many beautiful presents, and for the kindly words expressed by Mr Wilson. Miss' McLean also added her thanks. ' Mrs Hills (nee Margaret McLennan), of Wellington, delighted the company with a song which was encored. A Monte Carlo was won by Mrs Hills and her partner. Mr A. R. Daysh supplied excellent music and Mr C. Miller played an extra. Supper was provided by the ladies of the district and a very happy gathering terminated in the small hours of the morning.
