ESTIMATES FOR MASTERTON COUNCIL GENERAL EXPENDITURE UP. INCREASE IN TOTAL RATE LEVY. Under its estimates for the current year, which were adopted at a special meeting of the Finance Committee, held this morning. the Masterton County Council estimates that receipts will total £42,120, as compared with an income of £37,593 last year. Estimated expenditure shows an increase from £23.111 last year to £26,000 for 1939-40. Estimated expenditure in the various Riding Accounts has increased frpm £27,806 to £30,574. The aggregate increase over last year in the total rate levy tis 5.5 per cent. The total estimated rate levy for the coming year is £27,367 as compared with £25,944 last year. Details of this year’s finance are as follow, the figures for last year being given in parentheses: — general account. Receipts. Opaki Riding, £3,660 (£2,574); Rangitumau Riding, £2,820 (£2,689); Upper Taueru Riding, £2,330 (£2,063); Te Whiti Riding, £2,580 (£2,29'7); Uriti Riding, '£4,180 (£3,993); Waihuioru Riding, £3,710 (£3581); total, £19,280 (£17,197); arrears, £340 (£175); Government subsidy, £2,500 (£2,500); penalty and exchange, £4O (£32); license fees, £Bl5 (£812); sales of metal, etc. £2,725 (£2596); motor spirits, £5OO (£478); sundry refunds, £2,220 (£1,815); machinery working account, £8,500 (£7.866); material and stock. £5.200 (£4,122); totals, £42,120 (£37,593). Uriti: Riding Roads, £1,570 (£2,208); Special Works, £360 (£2,433); Main Highways, £3,642 (£2,876); total, £5,572 (£7,517). Wainuioru: Riding Roads, £1,525 (£1,531);' Special Works, (£535); Main Highways, £2,253 (£2,223); total, £3,778 (£4,289). Summary.
