ESPERANTO
MASTERTON CLUB MEETING. At the weekly meeting of the Mastertom,Esperanto Club, held last evening in the clubroom, Municipal Buildings, Mr A. Dewar, D.8.E.A., presided over a very satisfactory attendance. The club despatched a letter signed by each member to Mr Clarence Brown, film producer, congratulating him on his introduction of Esperanto for the first time, into a feature film. It was decided also to hold a postcard evening on October 16 next; and as a preliminary action the secretary was instructed to publish in the Esperanto Press an invitation to Esperantists throughout the world to forward cards which will later form a basis for the conduct of Esperanto correspondence between local club members and oversea Esperantists. Delivering his weekly address in Esperanto, the secretary (Mr W. H. King) furnished information relative to Esperanto congresses being held this month and in the near future. These included the 31st World Congress in Berne during August, the 30th British, the 34th Scottish and the 36th French Esperanto congresses. In addition, he mentioned the forthcoming 10th New Zealand Congress, which is to be held at Wellington during the Centenary. The usual tuition was supplied to an elementary class and conversational circle by Mr Dewar and Mr, King, respectively, at the conclusion of which excellent progress was reported. A short original sketch entitled “La Komercisto” (The Merchant) was presented in Esperanto by Mrs J. McNab, vice-president of the club, and the secretary, this item being the first of its kind introduced this season.
A very successful meeting closed with the singing by the club members of the chorus of the Esperanto version of “Now Comes the Hour.”
