AUSTRALIAN “DIGGERS”

ENTERTAINMENT IN MASTERTON. RAISING OF FUNDS. At a meeting of the Masterton members of the committee of the Wairarapa Returned Soldiers’ Association held last evening, presided over by Mr Roy Whyborn, it was decided to hold a “Diggers’ Market” to raise' funds for the entertainment of a party of Australian Diggers who will visit the Wairarapa in April, 1940, in connection with the Centennial celebrations. The Municipal Hall and Social Hall have been engaged for July 14, and tentative arrangements for the organisation of the market were discussed, and a further meeting will be held on May 31 to pursue the matter. It is expected that approximately 2000 Australian diggers will be coming to New Zealand, and a large party will be entertained locally.
