Competitors in the first round of the British Amateur golf championship played at Hoylake were handicapped by a strong wind. David Collins, New Zealand, .received a walkover from C. S'. Buckley. T. Edwards defeated Michael Scott 2/1, C. Yates (America) defeated B. Thompson 5/4, and R. Chapman (America) defeated J. Crowley 4/3.
