CLAY BIRD SHOOTING
WEST COAST, NORTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP. 11. K. SMITH PROMINENT. The North Island (West Coast) clay bird championship, a 21-bird match off 18 yards, fired at Palmerston North on Saturday, attracted 17 entries. H. A. Quarterman (Wanganui), and H. K. Smith (Masterton) were equal with 20 breaks at the end of the round. In the shcotoff Quarterman got six birds. Smith dropping his last bird. A sweeptake was held in conjunction with the championship, T. A. Wrigley (Dannevirke) tying with Smith and Quarterman. In the shootoff Wrigley was the winner, getting seven birds to Quarterman's six and Smith’s five. The first event, on Saturday was an •■eye-opener” (five birds) which was divided by F. Farmer (Palmerston North), N. Hansen (Palmerston North). E. C. Thomasen (King Country), J. B. Thomasen (Taihape), H. K. Smith (Masterton), J. W. McKenzie (Masterton) and J. Udy (Masterton).
A 9-bird sweepstake was divided between 11. K. Smith (Masterton), E. T. Thomasen (King Country) and N. Hansen (Palmerston North) who each secured nine birds.
