In the House of Commons the Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Captain H. F. C. Cruickshank, said the Government had no power to restrain the movement of gold held by the Bank of International Settlements of behalf of Ihe Czech National Bank. Czech gold and other assets in Britain would not be released until the obligations of Czechoslovakia were shouldered. Informal conversations wore proceeding with Germany, with a view to the possibility of more formal discussions early in June.
