The Hon. W. Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, will leave Wellington for Hamilton on Friday night. The Hon. R. Semple. Minister of Public Works, is expected to return to Wellington today from the South Island. Mr and Mrs F. W. Reynolds, The Terrace, Lansdowne, have returned from a visit to Napier and Hawke’s Bay. Mr P. V. McNabb, of the commercial stall of “The Province” newspaper, Nelson, who has been in Masterton for the past week, will return tonight. The Hon. F. Jones, Minister of Defence, will leave Wellington for Hamilton by the Limited express tonight. He expects to return to Wellington about the end of the week. The death of Mr Taite Te Tomo, a former member of Parliament for the Western Maori Electorate, at Kakariki yesterday, is reported in a Press Association telegram from Wanganui. Mr Len J. Greenberg, formerly secretary of the Y.M.C.A. in Wellington and now manager of the 4ZB broadcasting station, Dunedin, has been appointed secretary of the Commercial Broadcasting Service, and will return to Wellington early next month. Sir Evelyn Wrench, founder of the Overseas League and the EnglishSpeaking Union, who was to have visited Australia and New Zealand this year, has become seriously ill at Bombay, according to recent advice, and will have to abandon his tour and return to England. The Very Rev. G. Budd, formerly director of missions of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, has been appointed clerk of the Auckland Presbytery in succession to the Rev. A. M. Elliffe, who has been appointed director of the Dunedin Presbyterian Social Service Association.
On the recommendation of the Carterton branch, the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union unanimously elected Mr T. Anderson as a life member at yesterday’s annual meeting. Reference was made to the sterling work performed by Mr Anderson over a period of 20 years. Sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr J. T. Dagg, who was for many years a member of the Wairarapa Farmers’ Union was expressed at the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union at Masterton yesterday.
Mr W. F. Stock, president of the Wellington Sunday School Union, visited the Masterton Methodist Sunday School on Sunday morning, and the Sunday Schools at Kuripuni and Te Ore Ore Pa in the afternoon. On each occasion Mr Stock spoke, he made an excellent impression on the children.. He was also able to inspect the Knox Sunday School buildings in course of erection, and was most favourably taken with them. i The death occurred on Saturday of Mr Herbert Collard Brice, a wellknown resident of Wellington for more than 25 years, Mr Brice, who was an Englishman, served for some years in the Navy, and travelled to many parts of the Empire. After he retired Mr Brice came to New Zealand, and was for many years the proprietor of restaurants in Brandon Street and Lambton Quay. He was a member of the Wellington Bowling Club for 20 years.
At the meeting of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union yesterday, the president (Mr H. Morrison) expressed appreciation of the capable work done by Mr E. H. Doherty, over an extended period of years, in reporting the proceedings of the., executive. Mr Morrison extended good wishes to Mr Doherty, who has resigned from the “Times-Age” staff to take up a position in Sydney. On behalf of the executive he, thanked Mr Doherty for the consideration he had always shown and wished him every success in his new position.

Fildes (Auckland), A. P. Harper (Wellington) and H. A. Snowden (South Island); committee, Messrs D. A. Carty (Wellington), J. D. Pascoe (Wellington), I. L. Powell (Wellington), D. H. Rawson (New Plymouth), F. F. Sommons, R. Syme (.Hawera), G. B. Wilson (Wellington), and S. A. Wiren (Wellington); hon secretary, Mr A. E. Galletly (Wellington); hon auditor, Mr C. McAlister.
The Rev H. W. Austin, of the Wanganui Collegiate School staff, who has been appointed rpanager of the New Zealand badminton team to visit Australia in July, has been associated with badminton since its inception in New Zealand. With the Ven Archdeacon R. Creed Meredith, formerly of Wanganui, but now resident in England. He formed, in 1926, the first club in the Dominion which had its quarters in the collegiate school gymnasium. Mr Austin is a keen exponent of the game. He is president of the Wanganui Badminton Association, and a past president of the New Zealand Badminton Federation. Mr W. H. Turner, mentioned in yesterday’s cable news as the Australian Associated Press representative who chatted with their Majesties the King and Queen in Ottawa, was born in Wellington. He is the son of Mr Henry Turner, now of Sydney, and who was formerly in business in Masterton. Mr Turner began his association with the Press in Wellington. Later he was for a time the representative of a Wellington paper in Masterton. Subsequently Mr Turner joined the staff of the Sydney “Sun.” He was sent to London to report the coronation of King George VI. and the Imperial Conference. Later he was made representative of the Associated’ Press of Australia in New York, and from there he went to Canada to report the Royal tour.
