RUGBY FOOTBALL

GREYTQWN v OPAKI. (By “Touchline.”) The game between Greytown and Opaki on Saturday was keenly contested, Greytown winning by 14 points to 8. Opaki had a much better back line, and with Costello back it was a great improvement, the latter being in fine form. Play was very even for some time. Opaki was having the better of the scrums and Chisnall at half set his backs-going very smartly, frequently using the blind side. From a scrum in midfield, he sent out smartly to Larsen, to Morgan, to Gorringe and on to Costello, who ran through to score behind the posts, Hunt adding the extra points. Oliver received a nasty knock and was taken off, Green, filling the vacancy. Larsen got a nasty knock on the eye but after attention carried on. Halftime was drawing near' when Morris took a pass nicely from Gordon to race over for a try which he converted, making the score 5 'all at half-time. The 'second spell started off with Opaki forwards attacking' solidly, but three free kicks in succession gave Grey town relief. From a scrum Chisnall worked the blind side to send out to Costello who dashed over for a try, no goal resulting. Shortly after Morris scored a try, but did not convert. Another free kick gave Morris a chance and-he kicked a great goal. The final score came when Morris ran from halfway to score a great try, no goal resulting. Greytown backs were in good form. Morris being outstanding, Brunton, Gordon and Montgomery also being conspicuous. Woodley, Feild and Player were seen to advantage in the forwards. Opaki forwards, minus Stincar and several others, played good football. Seymour and Godden hooked splendidly. Hec Allen as lock held them together like a vice. Roigard, last season’s rep, shone out in the lineout and dribbling. McKenzie Was never off the ball. Walsh, Leighton and all went well. Chisnall. at half, wiis clever and gave the best display seen so far this season by any half. Larsen. Morgan and Gorringe combined well to stage some fine movements. Costello played a great game and is still, to my mind, the best winger in junior football. Condon showed great pace and if . given the ball will be hard to slop. Hunt was again back to form at full back. Mr W. Grantham was a good referee, but the penalties against Opaki were so numerous that the team should ask him to attend the practice at Lansdowne on Thursday night to give advice on new rulings which I am sure he would do.
