INTOXICATION CHARGE
FARM LABOURER BEFORE COURT. REMAND UNTIL JUNE 1. Archie Gordon Stevenson, a farm labourer, of Bideford, appeared in the Masterton Magistrate’s Court this morning, before Messrs A. D. Low and J. V. Gordon, J’s.P., charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car. Stevenson was represented by Mr J. K. Logan. On the application of Senior-Ser-geant G. A. Doggett, a remand was granted until June 1« Bail was renewed at self £25, aria’ one surety of £25. A new point as far as intoxicated motorist charges are concerned, was raised by Mr Low, who said: “Is accused still in possession of the keys of his car?” Senior-Sergeant Doggett: “Yes.” Mr Low: “I think some steps should be taken to prevent him using his car.” Mr Logan: “With all due respect, I doubt whether you can do that. This man is only charged, and no plea has been entered. This man needs his car to travel 20 miles to his work today, and to come into Court next month.” Mr Low: “Will you give an undertaking that accused only uses his car when absolutely necessary?” Mr Logan: “Yes.”
