BADMINTON MATCH

MASTERTON V. HASTINGS VICTORY FOR LOCAL CLUB. HAWKSWORTH BEATS WATSON. Intelested spectators taxed the capacity of the Masterton Drill Hall on Saturday evening when the Hastings Badminton Club played a match with the Masterton Club, Masterton winning by 23 sets, 563 points to Hastings' 1 set 229 points. The Hawksworth —Watson match was the highlight of the evening, and although a trifle disappointing Watson played only as well as he was allowed. Hawksworth took only a few iflinutes to find touch, and from then onwards dominated the game with beautiful delayed drop-shots and backhand shots which drew applause frequently from the spectators. The men’s doubles and combined doubles provided splendid matches, the ladies’ singles also being interesting to watch. Miss L. Hosking proved her worth in her singles and demonstratedthat in all games fitness was an essential part of play. The detailed results are as follow, the Masterton players being mentioned first in each instance:
