THE GAME IN WAIRARAPA < SOME GOOD PLAY WITNESSED. CARTERTON BEAT KIWI. Ideal conditions prevailed for the continuation of the Wairarapa Hockey Association’s fixtures. Witn the season well advanced most of the teams are now getting in form, with the result that some good games were witnessed. Most interest was centred on Saturday on the. Carterton-Kiwi match in the senior grade, and Carterton gained the honours by 2-0, after a fast and interesting game. Carterton were more fit than the local team, and in the first spell gained a lead of two goals which they maintained to the finish. The Kiwi backs kept to their task very well, but the forwards failed to show up against the solid defence of the Carterton backs.
Wesley journey to Carterton, and were beaten by 3-0 by Dalefield. This was also a good game in which both teams showed good form. Wesley had a new goalie out on Saturday in W. Emerson and he showed up by making some wonderful saves. The highlight in the junior fixtures was the Wesley A and College A match played at Lansdowne. The boys gave a great display of speed and stick work, which was a treat to watch. Both teams scored two goals in- the first spell, but with fifteen minutes to go to the final whistle, Wesley found the pace too hot and College rattled on three goals to make the score 5-2. Wesley B kept the club’s colours flying well by registering their first win of the season, at Carterton B’s expense, the score reading 3-0. College Old Boys, Greytown A and Carterton A also returned winning cards. The results were as follow: — SENIOR. Carterton beat Kiwi 2/0. Dalefield beat Wesley, 4/0. Hastwell a bye. JUNIOR. College A beat Wesley A, 5/2. Greytown A beat College B 12/0. College Old Boys beat Greytown B, 6/2. Carterton A beat Dalefield 3/1: Wesley B beat Carterton B 3/0. WOMEN’S DIVISION. NO SURPRISES ON SATURDAY. There was no surprises in the women’s competition games on Saturday, unless it was the defeat of Kiwi by Carterton. This game was very evenly contested, but Carterton rallied in the last few minutes of the game to win by 2/1, Excelsior had no difficulty in defeating Kia Ora B, the final being 7/1. The Kia Ora players are improving, and did very well to hold Excelsior to this score while they have the honour of scoring the first goal against Excelsior this season. Kia Ora A and College had a great tussle for honours, Kia Ora winning the match by 4/3. The junior grade games were again affected by the school holidays, both College B and C having to forfeit their games. In a friendly match Excelsior defeated College Old Girls by 4/1. The results are as follow: — SENIOR. Kia Ora beat College, 4/3. Carterton beat Kiwi, 2/1. Excelsior beat Kia Ora B, 7/1. JUNIOR. College A beat Carterton 3/0. Featherston 4, beat College D 1. Excelsior beat College B by default. College Old Girls won from College C by default.
