LADIES’ GOLF MATCH. CARTERTON DEFEAT GREYTOWN. (“Times-Age” Special.) Playing on the Taratahi links on Thursday the Carterton ladies defeated Greytown by seven games to three, one game being halved. The following were the results: —Mrs Booth lost to Mrs Horner; Miss Berrill lost to Miss Nix; Miss M. Campbell beat Mrs Madjiison; Mrs Harrington halved with Mrs Bunny; Mrs Murray beat Mrs Balfour; Miss Lamb lost to Mrs Gregor; Miss Anderson beat Mrs Ross; Mrs Riggs beat Miss Gregor; Mrs Colson beat Miss Stevens; Mrs Campbell beat Miss S. Stevens; Mrs Gustafson beat Mrs Nicholson. OBITUARY. MRS J. A. B. LAWRENCE. ’ The death occurred yesterday of Mrs Alexandrina Lawrence, wife of Mr Jas. A. B. Lawrence, of Park Road, Carterton. Mrs Lawrence had been ill for a considerable period. Her death will be deeply regretted by a large circle of friends in Carterton and the Wairarapa generally. She leaves a family of four sons and one daughter. They are Miss Mary Lawrence, Carterton; Messrs Warwick (Auckland), Rex (Carterton), Alan (Te Kuiti), and James (Wellington). Much sympathy will be felt for the bereaved husband and family in their sad loss. The funeral will leave deceased’s late residence, Park Road, Carterton, at 1.30 p.m. tomorrow for the Clareville Cemetery, after a short service at the residence. PARKVALE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. “HUSBANDS’ NIGHT.” The annual ‘‘husbands’ night” in connection with the Parkvale Women’s Institute was held in the Parkvale Hall last night, when there was a very large attendance. Games, competitions and dancing were enjoyed and items were given by members and friends. The junior members of the Institute presented a play entitled “I’m For Ever Out” and was greatly enjoyed by the audience. The cast included the following players:—Miss L. Rayner, Miss H. McKinnon, Miss E. Brassel, Miss J. Warrington, Miss S. Rayner, Miss E. Talyforth, and Miss M. Adlam. Other ■ items were: Recitations: Messrs A. Elkins and B. Roberts, Junr; songs, Mrs N. Peacotk, Mrs C. Downes, Mrs N. McKinnon and Miss L. Rayner; ,comic songs, Mr G. H. Potter; tap dance, Miss B. James. Competitions were won as follows: — Signature competition, Miss M. Adlam; photo competition, Miss L. Rayner; musical parcels, Miss N. McKinnon; comic parcel competition, Mr J. Gray; lucky spot dance, Miss S. Rayner and Mr Hood. A dinner was raffled in aid of Institute funds and was won by Miss Q. Hills, Carterton. Mr A. Elkins, on behalf of the husbands, thanked the ladies for a most enjoyable evening. Mrs N. Peacock, president, suitably replied. Music was supplied by Mrs J. James, Mr and Mrs D. Adams, Miss M. James, Miss H. McKinnon, Mrs N. Peacock and Mrs J. Turley. A dainty supper was supplied and presided over by the ladies of the Institute. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought a most enjoyable and successful gathering to a close. Not Charged with Speeding. Tn the Carterton court news on Thursday it was stated that J. McKenzie Hulme, a motorist, was charged with excessive speed and failing to observe due care and attention. The defendant was not charged with having driven his motor car at an excessive speed, and the other charge was dismissed. Personal. Mr Johannes Anderson, of Wellington, who has been the guest of Mr and Mrs R. H. Every, returned to Wellington yesterday afternoon.
