A. & P. AFFAIRS
MEETING OF MASTERTON ASSOCIATION. LONDON JUDGING OF CHILLED BEEF. The president. Mr P. R. Welch, occupied the chair at the monthly meetingof the Masterton A. and P. Association, held last night. There was a good attendance of members. The future of the Royal Show was briefly discussed and the question of applying for the fixture to be held in Masterton was raised. The consensus of opinion, however, was that the time was not yet ripe for the Royal Show to be held in Master ton. Messrs T. Borthwick and Sons Ltd. advised that the London judging of chilled beef classes at the Masterton Show was as follows: J. W. Perry, 1: A. and J. Gray. 2; G. Shaw, 3. The firm stated that it did not think the standard of the entries was as high as last year. Only about half of the bullocks were up to Show beef standard. J. W. Perry's pen was outstanding for quality and shape and although fairly heavy the judges decided in favour of that pen because it was exceptionally full of meat in both hindquarters and forequarters. A. and J. Gray's pen was a good deal smaller and of very fine quality, but not quite so shapely as the first prize winner. G. Shaw’s pen was also excellent quality, good weight and full of meat. The whole shipment arrived in excellent chilled condition and the colour and dressing wore very good. The Masterton Show judgings were: J. W. Perry. 1; J. M. .Tames, 2; G. Shaw, The Auctioneers’ Association wrote forwarding a donation of £lO 10s towards the funds ol‘ the association, which is to be acknowledged with thanks.
