RADIO WEEKLY
PROPOSED PUBLICATION IN AUSTRALIA. OBJECTIONS BY NEWSPAPERS. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright SYDNEY, May 19. An announcement made by the Post-master-General in the House of Representatives today that the Australian Broadcasting Commission, which is controlled by the Government, contemplates the publication of a weekly journal containing, in addition to radio features, talks and programmes, overseas news has caused a lively controversy. The daily newspapers are particularly hostile and take the view that the Broadcasting Commission, which is financed by listeners’ fees, has no right to enter the field of private competition and should concentrate on giving better radio programmes and better service to the public.
