DEFENCE RECRUITING

OVER ON THOUSAND MEN ENLIST IN AUCKLAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. May 19. The campaign of the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, to enlist 1000 volunteers to bring the peace establishment of the territorial force in Auckland city to normal strength reached its objective today, when military authorities announced that 1018 men had been enrolled. A vigorous effort has been made to obtain men between the ages of 18 and 35 I'or territorial service.
