MARCH PAST IN MADRID ITALIANS AND GERMAN TROOPS TAKING PART. BUSINESS AT STANDSTILL. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 12.25 p.m.) LONDON, May 18. “The Times” Madrid correspondentstates that General Franco today entered the capital, which event, according to the Ministry of the Interior, symbolises the termination of the war. About 200,000 'troops are already here. The population is swollen from a million to two millions. Six hundred planes, preparing to participate in tomorrow’s display, wheeled over the city. All shops are closed and business is at a standstill.
Tomorrow’s programme shows that 130,000 Spanish troops. 10,000 Italian troops and 2,000 to 4,000 German-troops are to march past General Franco, who has decided to accept the Laureada. the highest distinction of the Spanish army.
