ACUTE TENSION
ANGRY DEMONSTRATIONS IN JERUSALEM SHOUTS AGAINST BRITISH MINISTERS. SYMBOLIC WHITE PAPER BURNED IN HAIFA. JERUSALEM. May 18. Following the publication of the White Paper containing Britain’s proposals for Palestine, tension among Jews throughout the country became acute. Three hundred Jewish youths held a procession through the streets of Jerusalem yesterday shouting, "Down with Chamberlain, MacDonald and Halifax.” Slogans prepared for today's processions include, “We will not enter a third exile,” “We are not against the British people but against the present Government.”
After disarming the sentries, terrorists placed incendiary bopibs in the Government immigration headquarters at Jerusalem and the Government offices at. Tel Aviv. Both buildings were gutted. Six thousand Jews cheered when a symbolic Palestine White Paper with black edges was publicly burned in the centre of the Jewish quarter at Haifa after a procession through the streets. No disorder occurred.
