IMPORT RESTRICTIONS

DROP IN DOMINION EXPORTS. EFFECT ON LONDON FUNDS. Commenting on the imposition of import restrictions, Mr Hugh Morrison, Wairarapa Provincial president of the Farmers’ Union states: “A matter that has been overlooked regarding this subject is that the London funds are to be affected by the fact that the drop in exports last year amounted to about £9,000,000. In December, 1938, the funds in London amounted to £6,800,000, which would have remained at least at £15,000,000 but for the all-im-portant reduction in our export of primary products. This definitely proves that the importer must suffer in proportion to the drop in our export of primary products.”
