LADIES’ REST ROOMS

WELL FURNISHED AND FITTED. TO BE OPENED ON MONDAY. Everything is in readiness for the opening on Monday of the -Ladies’ Rest Rooms at the corner of Chapel and William Street. The rooms have been tastefully furnished and renovate! by the I-crough Council and present a decidedly attractive appearance. The rest room itself contains a settee, two or three easy chairs, stools and two small tables. A gas' fire has been installed for heating purposes. -The strongroom will no doubt be useful for the storage of parcels, etc. On the opposite side of the entrance passage is the custodian’s rooms, which is furnished with two easy chairs, a table and a gas heater. The kitchen is complete with a dresser, cupboards, table, sink, gas plate and the necessary pots and crockery, etc., to enable the custodian to prepare tea for adults or food for babies. A set charge will be instituted for this service. There are two sets of conveniences and hand basins, to gain admission to which it will be necessary to place a penny in the slot. There is also a large room at the back of the building available for meeting future developments. Although it has been renovated, x it has not been furnished meantime. This room, which lies well to the sun, would make an excellent nursery or would be eminently suitable as a meeting room for women’s organisations. Its use will depend on the demands likely to be made in that direction. The Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, made two appeals to the public to subscribe towards the cost of fitting out the roms, but his appeals met with a very poor response, only about £25 being received. Mr Jordan said he was still, hoping to receive donations, and he invited well-wishers to forward subscriptions towards the cost involved, which had been borne meantime by the ough Council. The actual cost of the renovation and furnishing was about £lOO.
