ARRIVAL SCENES

LINER AT WOLFE’S COVE KING & QUEEN CHEERED FROM SHORE. FRENCH-CANADIAN GUARD OF HONOUR. QUEBEC. May 17. As the Empress of Australia drew alongside the wharf at Wolfe's Cove their Majesties appeared together on the top deck and the crowd cheered enthusiastically. The Queen smiled happily and waved. This unscheduled appearance, before the formalities of landing at 10.30 a.m. were carried out, created a most favourable impression ashore. The King wore the uniform of an Admiral of the fleet and the Queen pearl grey ensemble, matching her furs and halo hat. ’ The day has been overcast, but the sun broke through just as the Royal Salute was fired. Thousands of people were silhouetted against the sky on the heights of Quebec and more thousands were massed at the historic cove, which again was splashed with the scarlet of British uniforms, this time worn by French-speaking troops. The guard of honour comprised the Royal XXII Regiment, which is entirely French-Canadian.
