HOLLYWOOD FASHIONS
PREVIEW PART OF DAY'S WORK. Informal is the, word for a Hollywood preview. No longer is the “Preview Tonight” banner, waving from Hollywood kinemas, a signal to trot out the sequins and sables, the din<?r jacket and tails. For a preview has become just a part of the day’s work, and may be attended in anything from a slack suit to a din? ner dress. Most of Hollywood, however, prefers dressy sports attire. Eleanor Powell may be depended upon to attend wearing a smartly tail? ored suit with a fur scarf or coat. Joan Crawford, oil the other hand, prefers a one-piece frock of some type or another, with a smart fur wrap thrown about her shoulders. One of the most picturesque of the preview attendees is Ilona Massey, blonde Hungarian actress, who chooses such occasions to dress in her colourful Hungarian costumes. A favourite consists of a long robe of navy brocade, edged with gold braid and hand embroidery. Over this is worn a fulllength military cape of white flannel, embroidered in black.. Rosalind Russell may always be depended upon to wear the chic street costume of the moment: She prefers black, accented with bright accessories, with hat fashioned from the accessory colour. Little Judy Garland takes advantage of her youth and appears in smart gaberdine slack suits, with berets to match. Costumes of the men are as varied as the winds. Clark Gable and Robert Taylor prefer the comfort of sports packets and slacks. Robert Montgomery and Spencer Tracy can usually be seen wearing dark coloured double-breasted suits. Mickey Rooney adds a collegiate atmosphere with his oashed-in felt hats and loose tweed top coats, accompanied by lads of his own age in similar outfits. Collegicnnes are represented by Virginia Grey, Lynne Carver, and Betty Jaynes, who recently have gone in heavily for plaid skirts and bright cashmere sweaters. Regardless of what they chose to wear, however, there is no breaking Hollywood preview rules. Anything goes, and the fans ask for autographs whether the costume be slacks or sables.
