SOUTH PARK

BOROUGH COUNCIL CONTROL SUGGESTED. TRIBUTES TO MR RACTLIFFE. A proposal by the South Park Society that the council take over the control and administration of South Park and that the name be changed to Ractliffe Park, came before last night’s meeting of the Masterton Borough Council. After a brief discussion, it was decided to refer the matter to the Park Committee for consideration and a report. Tributes were paid to the work and interest of Mr F. E. J. Ractliffe in the Park during the past 12 years. The Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, said he had never seen anyone in any walk of life take such pains with a task no matter what it was or how small it was. Mr Ractliffe had given a wonderful example of public service over a long period of yeas. No one knew the amount of time 'and money he had spent on the Park. He had been astonished at the care and pains Mr Ractliffe had taken with everything connected with the Park. If any man had a claim on the community for his public service it was Mr Ractliffe.
