Mr R. Woodcock is visiting Masterton to make arrangements for the appearance of the Vienna Mozart Boys’ Choir, on Friday, May 26. The friends of Mr P. Price, Railway Road, Masterton, will be pleased to hear that he has returned home from the Bowen Street Hospital, Wellington, after having undergone a successful operation. The Rt Hon M. J. Savage, Prime Minister, will leave Wellington for the South Island by the steamer express on Monday, May 29. to inspect a number of factories in Christchurch. Mr Savage expects to return to Wellington on the following Saturday, June 3. Mr J. O’Brien, M.P. for Westland, who has .been appointed senior Government Whip in succession to Mr R. McKeen, M.P. for Wellington South, who is to be nominated for the post of Chairman of Committees in the House of Representatives. Mr A. S. Richards, member for Roskill, will take Mr O’Brien’s place as junior Government Whip.

Over 200 people gathered in the Foresters’ Hall, Pahiatua, on Saturday evening to honour Fireman J. C. Stokes on the occasion of the presentation to him of the gold star for 25 years’ service with the Pahiatua Volunteer Fire Brigade. In addition to local representatives of various bodies, there were also present members of the Masterton, Waipawa, Waipukurau, and Manawatu fire brigades. The death occurred in Wellington on Sunday of Mr Thomas Lisle, aged 74. He was formerly well-known throughout New Zealand as organiser for the Reform Party, under the leadership of the late Mr W. F. Massey. Subsequently Mr Lisle was identified for some time with the United Party. With Dr Campbell Begg he helped to organise the New Zealand Legion, and afterward he founded the New Zealand Political Association.

At today’s meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board a motion was passed wishing Mr E. H. Doherty success in his new position in Sydney. The chairman, Mr H. H. Mawley, said the board meetings had always been well and accurately reported in the “TimesAge.” Mr W. B. Martin said that over a long period he had always been impressed with Mr Doherty’s reports, while Mr J. F. Thompson said he had met him in many spheres and had always found him to show the same sound ability.
