NO LOAN FOR SPAIN

UNTIL INDEPENDENCE IS ASSURED DETERMINATION OF FRENCH GOVERNMENT. NEGOTIATIONS IN PROGRESS. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.20 a.m.) LONDON, May 15. The Paris correspondent of “The Times” says the Ministries of Finance and Foreign Affairs deny that a Spanish loan is being issued on the French market, or that foreign bankers are conferring on the matter. A communique does not deny that informal talks are in progress about credits to General Franco. It is evident that the Spanish Government wants money for reconstruction . Equally, French finan.cial interests which long for big stake in Spain want to participate, but the French Government will not allow loans to Spain until Spanish independence is assured. Reports from the Continent suggest that not only French, but Belgian, Dutch, English and Swiss banks are interested. M. Van Zeeland is., reported to be conducting preliminary negotiations for an international loan of twenty millions sterling. FRONTIER DEFENCES. SPANIARDS DIGGING TRENCHES NEAR GIBRALTAR. GIBRALTAR. May 15. Five hundred Spanish troops are reported to be digging trenches and constructing fortifications at La Linea on the frontier.
