The remarkable case of a woman who masqueraded as a man for 51 years, and had two wives, was revealed when Annie Payne, aged 64, became an inmate of an old man’s home al Lidcombe suburb last week. Her sex was discovered when she was taken tc the bath. The woman lived under the name of Harcourt. She came to Australia from Derbyshire when 13 years old. She immediately donned boy’s clothes, and ever since had led the life of a man. She followed the occupations of labourer, traveller, tram conductor, rate collector, and assistant town clerk. Both her marriages are said to haye been happy. The second wife died a few weeks ago. i -
